Renovation and modernisation of the New University

Neue Aula 2011

Heidelberg University held the ceremonial reopening of the New University on 25 June 2011. The historic lecture hall building was completely renovated and modernised thanks to the friends, supporters and alumni of Heidelberg University who contributed to the "Dem lebendigen Geist" initiative. The campaign was named for the dedication inscribed above the portal of the building. Of the approx. 11 million euros total cost, the state of Baden-Württemberg contributed 3 million, with the other eight million coming from private donors and various foundations.
